Having just got my copy of the 'Materials, Process, Print - Creative solutions for Graphic Design' book in the post, I'd only just flicked through and already found some great examples of Branding and Packaging covering a diverse range of different print processes. It's great to know exactly what materials and what process had been used to create the different projects.

I recently bought the 'Type Selector - the user friendly front swatch' by Thames and Hudson. The swatch book comes with 226 fonts from all major type libraries in well over 1,000 weights and styles. Apart from the product itself it was the design and packaging that caught my eye, the 6 different colours represent the different type styles making it easier to find the ones that you're looking for. Also comes in a sturdy box so you know that It isn't going to get damaged.
Branding + Identity
Simple colour palette with a continuous typeface across all the different mediums.
Packaging and Promotion
The packaging for the t-shirt is what stood out for me as well as the CD packaging the contrast between the yellow and the pale blue really works well.
Really sophisticated branding for a cheese company. It was the typeface that stood out for me originally and the limited colour palette works well - great for printing as you just have the stock + 2 colours.
Textured packaging rather than just having cardboard - makes all the difference, makes the product look much more high end.
Not the biggest fan off coffee but the use of type and image is really effective here.Again i've noticed that it is easier to have limited colours when taking designs to print.
Information + Wayfinding
Quite a interesting calendar - seems to be a lot of thought gone into it and you can see that the process was obviously well thought out.
The barcode scanning on new smart phones has really taken off - this poster with the top 50 books which can be scanned and found online is a really effective. The fact that it looks like a bookshelf only makes the designs stronger.
I've never really taken into account just how important signage is and I love these examples, you can see just how well thought out they are and the fact that the design is continued across different mediums also works well.
After visiting Them studio I came back and looked into the work they had done for the photographer Rankin. They had mentioned that they had a limited print budget (don't know how limited their budget was cause the work still looks pretty epic!) The white on the black makes the type standout and the branding for the Rankin Live also looks good.
Again looking at signage and how it informs and allows people to find the right way. The use of blue and black on the white walls really make them stand out so that they're easy to see which is important when you're trying to direct someone to different places.
Publishing + Editorial
It was the foil blocking that first caught my eye. The silver on the yellow just looks fantastic. it's such a small published book but still works well and you can see the content and layout is well thought out.
This really reminds me of the newsprint paper that Catherinne Nippe had created. It's amazing how using a different stock makes all the difference and in this case you can see how appropriate the news print really is.
A bit of everything..
Branding and packaging for Reiss. Can really tell how sophisticated it looks just from the signage on the store to the simple white bag with the silver foil blocking in the middle. Adds a touch of class and just works so well.

Zoom in Zoom Out.
Found a book in the Library called Zoom in Zoom out and it had a number of interesting print projects. I've photographed a few pages with the projects that caught my eye. They fall into a number of the categories although a lot of it is branding and packaging.
